How to install and store O-rings

1. Installation of O-ring
The installation quality of the O-ring has an important impact on its sealing performance and service life. Leak problems are often caused by poor installation.
During the installation process, the O-ring is not allowed to be scratched, incorrectly installed, or twisted. Before assembly, the sealing groove and sealing coupling surface must be strictly cleaned; at the same time, apply grease to the surface that needs to pass during the assembly of the O-ring.
In order to prevent the O-ring from being cut or scratched by sharp edges such as corners and threads during installation, a lead-in angle of 15°~30’ should be left at the shaft end and hole end of the installation. When the O-shaped ring needs to pass through the external thread, a special thin-walled metal guide sleeve should be used to cover the external thread.
In addition, avoid missing installation or using scrapped O-rings. Also pay attention to the installation direction of the retaining ring.
2.Storage of O-rings
O-rings are wearing parts, so they need to be properly kept. Proper storage of O-rings has a great impact on their service life. O-rings should be stored as follows:
1) Avoid placing it in a place exposed to direct sunlight, moisture and air circulation. Because these are factors that accelerate the aging of O-ring materials. The suitable temperature for storing O-rings is 0~20℃, and the suitable air humidity is above 70%.
2) The O-ring must be stored 1m away from the heating equipment, and is not allowed to be placed in a room with acid or alkali.
3) When the O-ring is stored, it is not allowed to be pressurized to avoid permanent compression deformation.
4) The polyethylene plastic bags used to store O-rings must record their manufacturing and factory date so that they can be used in order.
The storage validity period of O-rings made of rubber material is generally 2 to 5 years.
