Installation precautions for Spiral Wound Gaskets

Spiral wound gaskets are the most widely used sealing gaskets at present. 201, 304, 316 stainless steel is used as the steel strip to add graphite, asbestos and PTFE are alternately wound. There are four common types: basic type, Inner ring type, outer ring type, inner and outer ring type. The method of use is relatively simple. The following is a brief introduction to the installation precautions of the gasket.

Installation Precautions:
1. The winding part of the gasket must be between the flange sealing surfaces, and the width of the winding part cannot be arbitrarily widened, which will inevitably affect the compression force of the bolts, thereby affecting the sealing performance of the gasket.
2. Basic gaskets are not recommended to be used on flanges with concave and convex surfaces. This is because under the action of the axial compression force of the flange, the solder joints on the inner ring of the gasket are easy to open and cause the gasket to fail.
3. Under severe working conditions such as high temperature, cold or frequent alternation of cold and heat, large vibration, strong corrosive medium, etc., it is recommended to install an inner ring of reasonable material for the gasket used for flat flange and raised flange.
4. Never use low material gaskets to replace high material gaskets. Avoid gasket failure due to material corrosion or other causes.
5. Before installation, carefully check the quality of flanges, bolts, nuts and gaskets, carefully check the installation of flanges or interfaces, and check whether there are defects such as deviation, wrong opening, opening, and wrong holes.
6. The surface of the flange or sealing part must be cleaned, and mechanical impurities are not allowed to adhere to the surface of the gasket, bolts and threads.
7. The gasket cannot be installed sideways, and the pressure should be uniform.
8.When tightening the nuts, the force should be uniform, and the bolts should be tightened symmetrically and evenly in 2 to 3 times, so that the gasket is evenly compressed.

Different winding materials use different temperatures:
Graphite spiral wound gasket service temperature -200-850 ℃ service pressure 0-20Mpa
Asbestos spiral wound gasket service temperature -200-500 ℃ service pressure 0-25Mpa
PTFE spiral wound gasket service temperature -200-260 ℃ service pressure 0-10Mpa
