What is expanded graphite packing ring? And installation points

Expanded graphite packing rings are ideal packing for valves and various static seals. Molded from low-sulfur expanded graphite without any additional fillers or adhesives, it can withstand severe changes in temperature and pressure. It can be used alone or in combination with Othello 0TH-1340 packing to prevent filler extrusion. The cross-section is square or wedge-shaped.
Installation of expanded graphite packing ring:
1. Expanded stone black sealing rings are generally molded parts with a circular cross-section. As long as the inner and outer diameters of the sealing rings match the dimensions of the shaft and stuffing box of the machine, they can be installed directly. Before press-fitting, the old debris in the stuffing box should be cleaned, and then the sealing rings should be pressed into the stuffing box one by one. It is also possible to use a combination of expanded graphite sealing material and asbestos gaskets, that is, a combined installation method of installing asbestos gaskets at two intervals on both sides of the expanded graphite sealing ring.
2. The misalignment of the valve stem and stuffing box in the installed parts, and the pump shaft and stuffing box should be consistent with or close to the original design standards in the parts. The valve stem and pump shaft should be straight, smooth and free of corrosion and mechanical damage.
3. During installation, the bottom of the stuffing box and the end face of the gland should be turned flat without gaps, and be careful not to damage the sealing surface of the expanded graphite sealing ring.
4. The total axial length of the packing is preferably 1.2 times the diameter of the shaft or sleeve:

When turning the machine after loading the filler, if you feel that the circumferential compression of the filler is uneven, you can tighten it again until it is even and then back off to loosen the gland bolts. After starting, adjust the tightness of the gland depending on the degree of leakage.
